MAY 18, 2009
Niagara Falls,
ON
Training continues and things looked like they were coming together for this determined fighter. A small complication with her eyes has once again held up sparring for Stephanie. This issue has been settled and she is hoping to get back in the ring before the month is out. In the meantime, Stephanie continues to enjoy training alongside her team mates, both professional and amateur alike.
SEPTEMBER 19, 2008
Toronto,
ON
Stephanie Van Zandwyk opts to have laser eye surgery to correct her vision. This will put pro boxing on hold for a minimum of six months. Training is held up completely for a short period of time but, she is back at it full on (sans sparring) six weeks later. Determined to get back into shape and ready to fight in the second half of the 2009 season.
JANUARY 1, 2008
Niagara Falls,
ON
Ron Gallen and Stephanie Van Zandwyk decide to leave the amateur ranks to turn professional. The licence comes through with no problems and Niagara Falls Boxing Club has it's first licenced female professional boxer. With no match ups on the horizon Stephanie continues to train as a pro boxer throughout 2008. There were a few offers to get in the ring at welterweight and lightweight but, that would have been quite impossible for this junior flyweight boxer.
