Novice athletes spend time on the fundamentals of boxing. There is plenty of time to practice these skills under the watchful eye of the NFBC coaching staff. Personal attention is a regularity to ensure that our apprentice fighters are building on the fundamentals in a positive fashion. Novice athletes are encouraged to watch and learn things from the competitive team when opportunity presents itself. Athletes in this class DO NOT spar and do not require a medical, all ages welcome to join in the fun. If an athlete is ready and wants to move up to the competitive class, a medical and registration with Boxing Ontario is required prior to the move. Ask Ron for the applicable paperwork to move up.

A reminder for all competitive boxers , it's medical time again! Get your yearly medical up to date for the 2011/2012 season to maintain your sparring privileges. See the coaching staff for your forms.
NO MEDICAL, NO SPARRING,
NO EXCEPTIONS!
Competitive
boxers
spend
time
outside
gym
time doing roadwork and
maintaining
a
healthy
body
weight to stay in
top
shape.
The
workout for
competitive
boxers is based on high intensity cardio
exercises and
drills along with appropriate strength training for our sport. Gym time is
also spent polishing
technical
skills
and ALL
competition boxers
take part
in
fully supervised
sparring two to three times per
week with other member of the club as well as members of visiting clubs.
Competitive boxers are
registered
with Boxing Ontario and
display their
skills at
boxing shows
and
tournaments when
the
opportunity
arises.A bonus for our competitive class are monthly fitness challenges. These are highly challenging circuits to test each athletes fitness abilities. No one knows when fitness challenge night will be so all are ready at any moment.

Non competitive boxers do many of the same exercises and drills that the competitive boxers use to stay in shape. Sometimes novice classes participate in the monthly fitness challenges as well. It is possible (and very likely, but not necessary) that non competitive boxers will want to move to the competitive class. When boxers are ready (with medical clearance) they will try some light, fully supervised, sparring with an experienced partner. This is an excellent program for physical fitness or to help athletes on their way into competitive boxing.
